Read the code together with the model
The same letters or numbers can mean different things on different makes, generations and machine types. Record the exact display, including punctuation, and the full model code before using a troubleshooting table. The examples below are common reference indications, not a universal diagnosis or a reason to buy a replacement PCB.
Washing machine error code causes and first checks
11 results
| Make | Example code | Indication | Safe first action | Technician checks |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| LG | IE | Water inlet / filling issue | Check the supply tap and visible inlet hose. Follow the exact model manual before touching an inlet filter. | Inlet flow, valve and level sensing. |
| LG | OE | Drainage issue | Check the visible outlet hose. Hot trapped water needs safe cooling and drainage before filter access. | Drain route, filter, pump and related sensing. |
| LG | UE | Unbalanced load | Pause and redistribute laundry if the lid or door releases normally. | Leveling, suspension and repeated imbalance. |
| LG | dE | Door closing issue on relevant models | Remove visible clothing trapped at the door; do not force or bypass the lock. | Latch, interlock and control signals. |
| Samsung | 4C / 4E | Water supply / filling issue | Check that the tap is open and the inlet hose is not folded. | Water flow, inlet valve and model-specific sensing. |
| Samsung | 5C / 5E | Drainage issue | Inspect the visible drain hose. Do not open the filter with hot water inside. | Outlet restriction, pump and filter. |
| Samsung | Ub / UE | Load balance issue | Pause and redistribute an uneven load where the machine allows it. | Installation, load and suspension. |
| Samsung | dC / dE | Door-related indication on some models | Check for trapped clothing; read the model manual because code variants differ. | Door lock and related circuits. |
| Bosch | E18 / F18 | Drainage / pump restriction on relevant models | Leave the machine off if water cannot be drained safely. Check the visible hose for a bend. | Drain pump, filter and drain path. |
| Bosch | E23 / F23 | Leak protection / water in the base | Stop use and close the water supply; arrange service. | Leak source, base tray and protection circuit. |
| IFB | Model-specific display | Use the exact model manual | Write down the complete display and machine model rather than applying another brand’s code table. | Follow the model-specific diagnostic procedure. |
No matching code. Use the exact model manual or call to discuss the display.
CL, lock symbols and delay indicators may describe a selected setting rather than a failed component. Reset procedures, child-lock controls and emergency-release methods are model dependent. Do not apply a timed reset sequence from a different model or repeatedly restart a machine that leaks or trips the supply.
After an error returns
- Write down when the code appears: filling, heating, washing, draining or spinning.
- Note whether water is left inside and whether the door unlocks normally.
- Tell the engineer about recent moving, installation, overloading or detergent changes.
- Keep the machine off if a safety-related fault is present.
- For warranty claims, use manufacturer support and keep proof of purchase ready.
Manufacturer references
References checked on 2 November 2026. Examples may come from different markets or model manuals; your machine’s own manual takes priority.
